UMGC Global Give 2025 Volunteer Day Recap

In honor of April’s National Volunteer Month, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), in collaboration with the Junior Achievement of Greater Washington and the Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, hosted UMGC Global Give 2025 Volunteer Day on April 9, 2025, at four Junior Achievement (JA) locations throughout Maryland and Virginia.

This event brought together UMGC students, alumni, and staff, along with JA team members, to volunteer at JA's Finance Park — a program designed to give middle school students personal financial planning and career exploration, helping them build a foundation to make intelligent financial decisions about income, expenses, savings, and credit.

"Introducing financial literacy resources early can help children develop a positive relationship with money to assist with financially strengthening the next generation,” says Nikki Sandoval, UMGC's associate vice president of Alumni Relations. “By coming together on UMGC Volunteer Day, we helped middle school children learn the power of financial independency with the hopes they bring the skills learned into their real life.”

Volunteers at the heart of it

Throughout UMGC's Global Giving 2025 Volunteer Day, alumni, student, and staff volunteers made a positive impact by:

  • Navigating interactive digital simulations to learn real-life financial skills.
  • Rotating around the Finance Park's “mini cities” with custom business storefronts.
  • Expanding their knowledge about careers, savings, budgeting, and financial decisions.
  • Gaining helpful insight, preparing them for work and life decision-making in the real world.
