The future is now, and it's virtual! The new Metaverse Island - a digital space where you can explore, network, and learn - is officially ready for Homecoming 2024. Here are some quick tips to get you started.
CREATE YOUR AVATAR
Using a Chrome or Edge browser on your computer, follow the instructions below:
- Visit https://umgc.remoteworks.com to set up an account using your email address.
- Enter your Display Name (First Name and Last Initial).
- Optional - Enter your LinkedIn Profile to grow your network.
- Click the “Sign Up” button to open the Metaverse.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR AVATAR
After you sign-up with a new account, wait for the island to load and customize your avatar:
- Use the small arrow at the bottom of the avatar to switch genders.
- Choose from various custom options including complexion, attire, and face features.
- Optional: You can add an Alumni or Student Badge to your avatar via the last icon on the bottom menu bar. Download your affiliation image to upload to your avatar (alumni, student, student and alumni badges with additional instructions are below to download).
- Hit “Save & Exit” to enter the virtual island and begin your fun exploration!
AVATAR BADGES
To add a badge to your avatar, simply right-click on one of the images based on your current UMGC affiliation. Select "Save as" to save the image to your desktop. Simply visit the Avatar Dressing Room and select the last icon on right, then toggle the button and follow the steps to upload your badge.
EXPLORE METAVERSE ISLAND
Your account and avatar are now complete! You will enter the virtual island at the Welcome Center. Here are some additional tips to help you get around:
- Turn on your microphone to speak with other participants near you.
- Turn on your sound to hear other participants near you.
- Use the up/down arrows on your computer keyboard to move avatar; the left/right arrows to move on the screen; use the shift key and up arrow to run.
Use the World Chat Box to message all participants; private chat box to message individuals.
Enter a Private Space to isolate your conversation with another participant.
Move next to Seating Areas and click on the chair/sofa image to have your avatar sit down.
Click the left side menu to select actions, dances, and emotions for your avatar.
Click the left side menu to view other users on the Metaverse island with you and begin a private chat.
Click the left side menu to change your avatar settings (appearance, display name, etc.).
Click the left side menu to teleport around the island and explore each area.
MORE FUN FEATURES
As you visit the island areas, explore fun activities in various locations:
Complete the Treasure Box Quest during live events; open at least four to receive UMGC Swag!
Drive or ride along in a Speed Boat – move your avatar next to the boat to select an icon.
Take a fun ride down the Mountain Zipline – move your avatar next to the pole to select the icon.
Visit the Clubs Courtyard to participate in the Autograph Walls, What’s in Common, and Create Your Design activities.
